AIThe entire forum is about scaled, ethical AI adoption and skilling for the social sector.
ISC Intelligence in Science
A sprawling, hybrid program of sessions running through September alongside the 81st UN General Assembly, connecting science, policy, and the SDGs. Topics span One Health, AI, climate, food systems, and science philanthropy, with a heavy share of free and virtual sessions.
★ Nick's takeThe accessible counterweight to the invite-only rooms. Sprawling, hybrid, and heavy on free sessions. Pick three sessions that matter to your work and skip the rest, the program runs all month.
Semafor
Semafor's full day of live journalism during UNGA week on digital inclusion and the emerging economies where the next three billion people come online. Candid, on-the-record conversations with leaders across tech, finance, and development. 2026 date to be confirmed, expected late September.
★ Nick's takeA full day of live journalism on digital inclusion and emerging markets. Newer than the legacy rooms and surprisingly good, the on-record format keeps panelists honest.
Devex
Devex's hub during UNGA and NY Climate Week, running September 21-24, 2026: a multi-day series of on-the-record conversations, partner events, and networking for the global development community, hosted by the Devex editorial team.
★ Nick's takeThe development sector's living room during UNGA week. If you work in global health or development and only have one badge-free stop, make it this one. Come for the panels, stay for the hallway.
UN Global Compact
The UN Global Compact's flagship UNGA-week convening for the corporate sustainability community, back for 2026 during high-level week. Brings together CEOs, government leaders, and UN officials around private sector action on the SDGs. Dates to be confirmed.
★ Nick's takeThe corporate sustainability wing of UNGA week. Useful if you sell to or partner with the private sector on SDG work, skippable if you don't.
Qatar Economic Forum, Powered by Bloomberg
A one-day leadership gathering on September 20, 2026 alongside UNGA 81, convened by the Qatar Economic Forum with Bloomberg. Themed Growth on New Terms: Capital, Risk and Resilience, it gathers heads of state, policymakers, and investors around the global economy.
★ Nick's takeThe current form of the Bloomberg-powered UNGA gathering. Heads-of-state adjacent with a capital markets framing. Worth pursuing if your work touches sovereign investors, otherwise watch the livestream.
UN Global Compact / Global Africa Business Initiative
The flagship event of the Global Africa Business Initiative, convened by the UN Global Compact on the sidelines of UNGA high-level week. The 2026 theme is Powering Business, Scaling Economies, Shaping the Future, gathering African heads of state, CEOs, and global investors. 2025 ran September 21-22; 2026 dates to be confirmed.
★ Nick's takeArguably the best-curated room of the week for anyone working on the continent. UN-convened but it runs like a business summit, and the announcements are real commitments, not press-release vapor.
Global Citizen
The free advocacy mega-concert on Central Park's Great Lawn that closes UNGA week, drawing up to 60,000 people. Tickets are earned by taking action on Global Citizen's campaigns, and world leaders and companies announce commitments from the stage. 2026 date to be confirmed, expected the final Saturday of high-level week.
★ Nick's takeSixty thousand people on the Great Lawn, the one UNGA-week event where advocacy meets pop culture at full volume. Not a networking play, but the commitments announced on that stage are real money.
Gates Foundation
The Gates Foundation's flagship UNGA-week event, gathering around a thousand government, philanthropy, and private sector leaders around progress on the Sustainable Development Goals. Invite-only, 2026 dates to be confirmed.
★ Nick's takeThe hardest room to get into during UNGA week and the one where the global health funding conversation actually happens. If you can get an invite, take it.
Women Deliver
One of the world's largest convenings on gender equality and the health and rights of girls and women, held roughly every three years. The next edition has not yet been announced; expected 2027.
★ Nick's takeWhen it convenes, it moves the gender equality agenda more than any other single room. Watch for the host announcement.
Government of the UAE
Dubai's annual convening on the future of government, spanning digital government, AI policy, and public sector innovation. 2027 dates to be confirmed, typically February.
AIAI in government is a headline track
★ Nick's takeGulf convening power at full scale. If ministry digital transformation is your market, the hallway conversations justify the trip.
Open Government Partnership
The biennial summit of the Open Government Partnership, convening governments and civil society on transparency, participation, and digital governance. Next edition expected in 2027, host to be announced.
★ Nick's takeWhere open government commitments get made in public. Civil society gets real speaking time here, not just side rooms.
Devex
Devex's flagship convening on the future of global development, drawing agency leadership, funders, and implementers to Washington. Next edition expected in 2027, dates to be confirmed.
★ Nick's takeThe development sector talking to itself in the best way. Good barometer for where funding and narrative are heading next.
Intellecap · Aavishkaar Group
One of the largest impact enterprise and investment platforms in the Global South, anchored in Mumbai with regional editions in Africa. 2026 dates to be confirmed, typically late in the year.
★ Nick's takeEntrepreneur-dense and deal-oriented. Closer to the ground than the funder summits, which is exactly its value.
Philea (Philanthropy Europe Association)
The annual gathering of European philanthropy, convening foundations and funder networks from across the continent. 2027 dates and host city to be confirmed, typically early summer.
★ Nick's takeThe European funder room. Useful counterweight if your philanthropy calendar is all US convenings.
Health Systems Global
The biennial gathering of the health systems research community, alternating regions each edition. Next edition expected in late 2026, dates and host city to be confirmed.
★ Nick's takeResearcher-heavy, policy-relevant. The place where health systems evidence gets stress-tested before it shows up in ministry strategies.
Africa CDC
Africa CDC's flagship public health conference, the continent's largest health convening. 2026 dates and host city to be confirmed, recent editions have run in the fourth quarter.
★ Nick's takeThe center of gravity for African public health leadership. If your work touches health systems on the continent, this outranks the Geneva circuit.
Consortium of Universities for Global Health
The academic global health community's annual meeting, bridging universities, implementers, and policy. 2027 dates and city to be confirmed, typically spring in the US.
★ Nick's takeThe academic wing of global health. Strong for research partnerships and early-career talent, lighter on implementers.
Technology Association of Grantmakers
The gathering of technology leaders inside foundations and grantmaking organizations, with a heavy responsible-AI agenda. 2026 dates and host city to be confirmed, typically November.
AIResponsible AI adoption in philanthropy is the central theme
★ Nick's takeSmall room, precise audience. These are the people who decide what technology funders buy and fund.
Arizona State University · GSV Ventures
Where education, workforce, and impact capital markets meet, with the deepest AI-in-learning programming of any major summit. 2027 dates to be confirmed, typically April in San Diego.
AIThe AI Show and AI-in-education programming anchor the agenda
★ Nick's takeExpensive, commercial, and worth it if you sell learning at scale. The AI programming got serious faster here than anywhere else in education.
Temasek
Temasek's annual sustainability week for Asia's capital allocators, business leaders, and policymakers. 2027 dates to be confirmed, typically early May, co-located with the Philanthropy Asia Summit.
★ Nick's takePairs naturally with the Philanthropy Asia Summit if you are making the Singapore trip count.
Temasek Trust · Philanthropy Asia Alliance
Temasek Trust's flagship convening of the Philanthropy Asia Alliance, with over a billion dollars pledged across its member network. 2027 dates to be confirmed, typically alongside Ecosperity Week.
★ Nick's takeThe most consequential philanthropy room in Asia. Invite dynamics apply, but the Alliance's pledge book speaks for itself.
AVPN
Asia's largest social investment network brings 600+ member organizations together across philanthropy, impact investing, and corporate giving. Host city rotates, 2027 edition to be announced.
★ Nick's takeIf you are raising from Asian philanthropy or building anything in the region, this is the room.
UN OCHA
The humanitarian sector's largest working-level gathering, combining remote sessions with an in-person week in Geneva. Free to attend. 2027 dates to be confirmed, typically spring.
★ Nick's takeFree, hybrid, and unusually practical. More partnerships get drafted here than at the glossier summits.
Charité Berlin · WHO
The strategic forum for global health, held annually in Berlin under the patronage of the German Chancellor and the WHO Director-General. 2026 dates to be confirmed, historically mid-October.
AIDigital health and AI governance sessions each year
★ Nick's takeBerlin in October is where global health leadership shows up in one room. Less technical than PMAC, more agency heads per square meter.
UNFCCC · Government of Ethiopia
The 32nd UN climate COP heads to Addis Ababa, putting African adaptation and climate finance at the center of the agenda. Dates to be confirmed, typically November.
★ Nick's takeAn African COP changes who is in the room and what gets funded. Plan early, the city will be at capacity.
UNFCCC · Government of Türkiye
The 31st UN climate COP, with the World Leaders' Summit on November 11 and 12. The central negotiating and convening moment of the global climate year.
★ Nick's takeNot a conference you attend casually. If your work touches climate finance or adaptation, the pavilions and side events are where the field actually meets, the negotiations are background music.
Prince Mahidol Award Foundation · Thai MOPH · Mahidol University · WHO
The annual global health policy conference, co-hosted by WHO, the World Bank, and the Thai government. The 2027 theme is the commercial determinants of health.
AIAI and digital health recur across policy tracks
★ Nick's takeGDHF in December, PMAC in January, same Bangkok venue. This is the policy anchor of the global health calendar, and pairing the two is the strongest one-two in the field right now.
Access Now
Access Now's first thematic summit: a 24-hour online event circling the globe, created after the effective cancellation of RightsCon 2026 by the government of Zambia. A single day of fireside chats, debates, strategy sessions, and networking built around resilience, movement building, and multistakeholder action, on a pay-what-you-can basis. Registration opens August 26 and closes September 21, with the platform live from September 7.
AIAI governance, accountability, and rights run through the digital rights agenda here, though the summit's stated frame is resilience and movement building rather than AI specifically.
★ Nick's takeLosing Lusaka was one of the bigger blows to this sector all year, and turning it around into a 24-hour global online summit inside a few months is a serious response rather than a holding pattern. No new call for proposals, so the program comes out of what was already accepted for 2026. If you work anywhere near digital rights, this is the one day the whole community will be in the same place... and it costs you a Tuesday instead of a flight.
New Ventures
Latin America's main gathering for impact investing and social entrepreneurship, connecting fund managers, entrepreneurs, family offices, and development finance across the region. Spanish-first, with the deal conversations that most global impact events talk about but rarely host.
★ Nick's takeThe LatAm impact capital room, and one of the few major convenings in this index where Spanish is the working language rather than a translation channel. If your work touches Latin America and you only know SOCAP and the GIIN Forum, this is the gap in your calendar.
Taleemabad · Friends of Pakistan Society & Fund · Mulago Foundation
A working summit for nonprofit and for-profit leaders who already have a proven model and need a path to millions of users. Participants arrive with a working social product or service and leave with a scale blueprint, presented live to philanthropists and investors on the final day.
AISeveral sessions on integrating current digital and AI thinking into scale strategy, framed around delivery rather than technology.
★ Nick's takeSmall, cohort-shaped, and built around an actual deliverable, which is rarer than it should be. The Mulago involvement is the signal worth reading here: that is a funder with an unusually disciplined view of what scale means. Details are still thin this far out, so verify before you book anything.
Social Innovation Summit · Landmark Ventures
Corporate impact, philanthropy, and technology leaders convening alongside the UN General Assembly, with 2026 programming built around human skills in an AI-enabled world and the future of impact. Heavy on cross-sector dealmaking rather than technical depth.
AIDedicated AI track, angled at what human capability looks like alongside AI rather than at the technology itself.
★ Nick's takeUNGA week is the most oversubscribed calendar slot on earth... this one competes with Concordia, CGI, and Climate Week for the same people in the same seventy blocks. Worth it if your goal is corporate impact and CSR budget holders, which is a genuinely different room from the multilateral crowd. Pick one anchor and treat everything else as side meetings.
Tech Impact
Tech Impact's annual gathering for nonprofit technology leaders, built around operational tech and strategic planning: cloud, cybersecurity and risk, data management, AI adoption, and digital strategy. Roughly 90% of attendees and 90% of speakers come from nonprofits, so the case studies are peer-to-peer rather than vendor-led.
AIAI shows up as a practical thread across sessions, mostly adoption, governance, and data readiness inside nonprofit operations rather than as the headline theme.
★ Nick's takeDifferent orbit from most of this index... squarely US domestic, aimed at nonprofit CIOs, IT directors, and ops leaders rather than ministries or global programs. I haven't been. But the nonprofit-to-nonprofit ratio is the real draw: when 90% of the room and 90% of the stage are practitioners, you get candid answers about what actually broke instead of a sales pitch. If you run technology for a US-based nonprofit, this is probably the best-value room you can be in this fall.
Human Potential Network
The annual anchor event of the Human Potential Network, a community of employers rethinking talent and workforce strategy. Designed as a working session rather than a stage show, it convenes employers, workforce and education innovators, and nonprofit leaders around unlocking human potential as AI reshapes work.

Opportunity Collaboration
An all-inclusive 'un-conference' on poverty and social justice, built around small, facilitated workshops instead of panels and plenaries.
★ Nick's takeOne of my favorites. If you hate panels and plenaries, this is your scene... lots of small, intentional, well-designed workshops. ★ Nick's takeFull disclosure: I'm on the board, so weigh my enthusiasm accordingly... but PopTech is one of my favorite conferences anywhere. It weaves together technology, design, social impact, and the future like nothing else I go to, and it's as good for your soul as it is for your head. I can't make it this year, which stings, but the 30th anniversary in DC is shaping up to be special. If you can get there, go... my hunch is it'll be one of the best they've ever run.
